Getting Over Goombas

The ultimate platforming challenge: the rage-inducing mechanics of Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy in the classic world of Super Mario Bros.

Control Mario's trusty hammer to navigate through a treacherous environment filled with Goombas and other iconic enemies. But don't be fooled by the familiar graphics - this game is anything but easy, one false move could send you tumbling back to the start.

Can you master the art of hammer-swinging and reach the flag pole in record time? Get ready to rage, Mario-style!

Controls

Mouse-only.

"The app can't be opened" on macOS 13, tried right clicking, didnt work, seems that it wasnt implemented correctly

This seems very good, just wish we could play it in browsers...

o jogo não está iniciando no linux ele abre uma tela preta e rapidamente fecha

(VIDEO)

I thinks will be better if had a way to lock the mouse

maybe make it so that it locks the mouse

I am having an absolute blast with this. Perfect blend of frustratingly difficult controls and level layout that feel incredibly satisfying to get the hang of!

the window is way too big, my screen can't fit it and I can't change the size

Press Alt+Enter for full screen.

Please do not lock the Y-axis. The reason the original Getting Over It were controls well is because your cursor is focused on the character's center on the camera, making it easy to controls your hammer as it was remains in the circle area. Removing vertical camera makes controlling Mario way more difficult and can lead to unnecessary launch when you aren't suppose to because your cursor aren't in the center of Mario.

After practicing the game a couple nights, this is still the big pain point. A couple blocks of vertical scroll top and bottom would have made it a very different game

Yeah, it makes quite a huge difference if you realize something is wrong.

this game is great for a web version

I enjoyed this game and the video about it, so I modded it with instant respawn, fullscreen/resolution switching, LiveSplit support. and a basic trainer. https://bitbucket.org/rixls0/goombasplitter/

yoooo! Thanks for your hard work, will be fun to try streaming this!

Can you make more levels?

would love to take a good crack at this, but no support for fullscreen, no mouse restriction to window means it's extremely annoying to play on a 4k display. It also appears to lack a pause function, so moving the cursor elsewhere still interacts with the game.

agree, sensitivity setting would also help

Hey, thanks for the comment. Indeed that's annoying. This was a quick fan project, so I didn't take it too seriously and it lacks many important features. I'm keeping track of all these requests and will include them if I develop a new version. However, I should say I'm not working on this game at the moment.

Alt-Enter for fullscreen on Windows. Edit: or check out my other comment

Thanks I couldn't figure this out!

Man this would be cool with a level editor, and some things like red coin challenges.

this couldve been a cool thing, but the controls are terrible. for instance, the hammers handle is solid in this, which makes it so much harder than it needs to be, also the mouse sucks

I don't know if its intended, but the game is painfully slow; and the controls...

doesn't replicate the getting over it control scheme well at all, cursor isn't locked in the game either.

This game broke me.... Please i need help

I have a nice idea for the second game. What do you think, it will be the same game as Super Mario Brothers, but with the character of CJ? Gta

The best beautiful game, it is true that it is difficult, but I enjoyed it

Haha thank you! ❤️

Could you make it so it displays that Unity launcher thingy (the one where you can choose resolution and fullscreen mode) before the start of the game? My 720p laptop will thank you.

make a web version so us chromebook users can play it pls

its not that easy

Linux vm in chrome, look up a tutorial and save the linux.zip in linux files

**There is no such thing as a "chromebook user" get a real computer. (To the credit of Chromebooks they actually make better electronic device now, but I still won't call them "computer" since they are not made to run software other than "web app".) if you think they are actual computer despite that, fine by me.

Ah yes, thanks for the reminder as a french speaker I often confuse the two.

Just remember: Their is plural of his/her. They're is a shorthand for "they are". There is where the thing is.

Fuck off, also get better Grammer dumbass.

Hey there, i tried to play it on MacOS and kept getting this message. Looks like it's not implemented correctly. I have a MacBook Pro 2019 running on macOS Monterey 12.6
